Teak furniture has become a trending furniture option in recent years because of its durable and low maintenance construction. Buyers also value teak furniture because of its coarse texture, aromatic scent, and natural density. Cleaning Teak

In order to prevent mildew and discoloration, you should regular clean your teak furniture with mild soap and a soft brush. If you prefer to use a more natural cleaning agent, you can prepare a mild vinegar solution instead of using soap. Simply mix 1 cup of vinegar with 1 cup of warm water. Add a drop of aromatic essential oil if you want to give your teak a fresh scent. 

Next, apply your soft cleaning brush to the solution and work your way from the top to the bottom of the teak furniture in a circular motion. Dip your brush into the solution occasionally in order to fully saturate and clean the surface. Wait 15 minutes before rinsing off with warm water. Dry the moisture with a soft cloth and allow the furniture to fully dry outside. Consider cleaning your furniture every 3 to 4 months in order to keep your furniture in top condition. 

Oiling Teak

If you want to maintain the rich, golden color of teak, make sure that you properly oil your furniture on a regular basis. Generally, you should oil your teak every 3 to 4 months, right after you have cleaned it. Cleaning teak strips away the natural oil content, so it is important to replace it. Tung and linseed oil are the preferred oil options since they work well to block UV rays as well as retard mildew growth on your furniture. 

Simply pour a cup of oil into a container and dip a paint brush into the oil. Apply the oil onto the teak with even strokes. Don't make the mistake of over-saturating the furniture with oil since you will have to clean up the excess; teak is very absorbent and does not need too much oil. Continue on until the teak presents a matte finish and lacks shiny spots. After oiling the furniture, try to keep it indoors for 24 to 48 hours before returning the furniture for outdoor use. Your furniture should continue to shine and glow until it is time for another oiling treatment.
